February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, and a collaboration of local nonprofit organizations are working together to help fix dogs and cats.

Options Veterinary Care, in cooperation with Washoe County Regional Animal Services, the SPCA of Northern Nevada, the Pet Network Humane Society and several other local rescue groups, are working to share information about the need for spaying and neutering in our area.

The aim is to have that education lead to more people spaying and neutering their pets; the group would like to fix over 500 dogs and cats in Washoe County in February - leading up to World Spay Day on February 25.

Washoe County Regional Animal Services are working to provide spay and neuter surgeries in conjunction with a local rescue group.

Options Veterinary Care is providing free spay and neuter surgeries for community cats and rescue groups in Washoe County. They are also providing affordable surgeries for the public, including free vaccines and microchipping.

WCRAS and SPCA of Northern Nevada vets and staff are providing extra spay/neuter days at the Options clinic for the month.

The SPCA of Northern Nevada will also be offering affordable spay/neuter vouchers for local vet clinics beginning on February 11. Their own spay/neuter clinic starts accepting appointments for March on February 20.

You can get more information about the event at the Options Veterinary Care website.
