Local scout troops are teaming up with Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful to make clearing out Christmas trees simple for homes in Reno and Sparks.
Scouts4Trees, a partnership between Scouting America Nevada Area Council, local scout troops, and KTMB, collects trees from homes for a $20 donation per tree. The money helps Scouts enjoy camping, leadership training, summer adventures, and other programs.
Pickups are scheduled for Saturday, January 3, Sunday, January 4, and Saturday, January 10.
Registration closes at 12 noon on December 31 for January 3 pickups, at 12 noon on January 1 for January 4 pickups, and at 12 noon on January 7 for January 10 pickups.
Trees must be placed at the curb by 9 a.m. on the scheduled day.
People are asked to remove all decorations, lights, and tinsel, and trees with flocking or artificial snow will not be accepted.
Holiday lights can be left in a separate bag for recycling. If a tree is not picked up by 3 p.m., organizers ask people to email Scouts4Trees@nevadabsa.org.
Those registering online will receive a confirmation email. If a receipt is not received, people are encouraged to email the organizers the following day.
For more information, people can email Scouts4Trees@nevadabsa.org. All $20 payments are considered tax-deductible donations.
