A suspect has been arrested in north Reno for possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material.
The arrest of 19-year-old Reno resident Giovanni Martinelli comes after a months-long investigation by the Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, according to a release from the Washoe County Sheriff's Office.
On Wednesday, the Task Force assisted the FBI in serving a residential search warrant in connection with a federal CSAM investigation.
An electronic storage detection K9 helped in finding digital storage devices that authorities say could contain child sexual abuse materials, and CSAM was discovered on digital items belonging to the suspect.
During an interview with authorities, Martinelli also admitted to creating CSAM involving multiple minors around 12 years old and sextorting other victims into providing CSAM content.
Martinelli was arrested and taken to the Washoe County Detention Facility, where he was booked on a felony charge of possession of visual presentation depicting sexual conduct of a person under 16 years of age.
Authorities are working to identify, locate, and interview additional possible victims connected to the case.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
The FBI's investigation is ongoing.
