The Lyon County Sheriff's Office recognized two dispatchers on their social media for exemplary service in an incident involving a child burn victim last month.

On January 30, Lyon County Dispatchers Elizabeth Waid and Sarah Walker got an emergency call about an 11-year-old boy in Dayton who had badly burned himself, according to a post on Facebook from the LCSO.

The Central Lyon Fire Protection District requested a helicopter to transport the boy.

Less than a minute after getting that request, a helicopter had been assigned and was airborne minutes later, lifting the child and taking them to the UC Davis Medical Center. Burn Unit to receive care not available in our region.

While the flight crew was heading to the hospital, Waid and Walker ensured that there was clear communication between the hospital and the flight crew about the boy, and made sure the hospital had the most up-to-date information on him.

"Calls such as this, whenever children are involved, can be especially tense and emotions can run high," said the LCSO on Facebook. "Child calls can be very difficult for Public Safety Dispatchers to maintain their composure. They demonstrated the utmost professionalism and showed what it truly means to be the ‘calm in the storm’ in someone's time of need."
