A man was arrested in the Virginia City Highlands on Wednesday after an hours-long standoff involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Storey County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a violation of a temporary protection order for domestic violence on April 28, according to a post on the SCSO Facebook page.

The suspect refused to leave the home and threatened violence against law enforcement multiple times.

Deputies knew the suspect was armed due to surveillance conducted during the incident, and requested help from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office negotiation team and SWAT.

The negotiation team reached the suspect by phone, and after several hours of speaking with him, he came out and was arrested for violation of the protection order, as well as assault with a deadly weapon.

He was booked into the Storey County Detention Facility.

The investigation remains active, and the Sheriff's Office will provide more information when it is available.
