A man was arrested on Thursday on multiple charges after allegedly being caught unlawfully taking a car in south Reno, leading to a chase.

Reno Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Kilborne Avenue around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday according to an RPD press release.

When they arrived, police say they found 22-year-old Ryan Merrill unlawfully taking a car. Merrill then allegedly drove directly at an officer, hitting his car while the officer got out of the way.

Officers initially chased Merrill but stopped their pursuit due to his erratic driving and the threat he posed to the public.

They later got reports from the public that the car Merrill was driving had become disabled in the area of westbound I-80 and West McCarran Boulevard in northwest Reno.

Officers arrived on scene to find that Merrill fled on foot according to the release.

Officers found him shortly afterward and arrested him without incident.

Merrill was booked on charges including unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, two counts of eluding, two counts of hit and run, reckless endangerment, destruction of property, and resisting a public officer.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to call the Reno Police Department's non-emergency line at (775) 334-2677 or Secret Witness at (775) 322-4900 or secretwitness.com.
