A man was convicted of domestic battery and resisting an officer in Sparks earlier this year.

The Sparks City Attorney's Office says Thomas Riley was sentenced to 180 days in jail, suspended, on the condition he complete 2 days jailtime or 48 hours of community service.

Prosecutors say police initially responded to the scene while investigating an unrelated car crash in September. Authorities say the woman was crying profusely, which prompted officers to remove her from the home. They say she told officers that two children, ages 8 and 10, were still inside with Riley who refused to speak to officers, and was holding a gun.

They say the woman told officers when Riley had returned home, he yelled at her, threw a shoe at her, and punched her in the arm.

When Riley came out of the home, prosecutors say he put his hands up but then went back inside. Eventually, he was tazed and detained.

The woman was let back inside the home to be with her children where she also told officers Riley accused her of inappropriate behavior, broke her phone and a box of school supplies. When police talked to him, they say he admitted to it.

Authorities say Riley was also fined $200 plus administrative assessments plus $35 Domestic Violence fee, must comply with Child Protective Services plan, complete 26 weeks of domestic violence counseling, parenting classes, abstain from drugs and alcohol, submit to random search and seizure, complete random testing with the compliance track or Sober24, and obey all laws.
