A new opportunity is opening the door for college students in Northern Nevada to help shape the future of agriculture, with financial support aimed at those already working toward careers in the field.
The Nevada Dairy Farmers are offering four $5,000 scholarships to students at the University of Nevada, Reno who are studying agricultural science or veterinary science. The program is now in its third year.
“As we celebrate the third year of this scholarship, we are proud to invest in the next generation of leaders advancing sustainable, science-based agriculture in the Silver State,” said Libby Lovig, RDN, LD, general manager at Nevada Dairy Farmers. “This scholarship will help support students in higher education while inspiring them to pursue sustainable solutions that support long-term agricultural resilience. Farming isn’t just a job, but it’s a lifestyle that requires strong commitment and dedication.”
The scholarships are designed for students who are focused on land stewardship, animal care, and long-term solutions to strengthen agriculture.
To qualify, applicants must be attending the University of Nevada, Reno, be juniors or seniors with a declared major in agricultural science or veterinary science, and be legal residents of Nevada who are at least 17 years old.
Students can apply online or by mail. Applications must include proof of enrollment at the University of Nevada, Reno, along with a declared major in agriculture or veterinary science. Applicants are also required to submit a written cover letter and responses that demonstrate initiative, character, and quality.
