Mosquito

The Douglas County District Mosquito Abatement announced on Friday that mosquitos in Douglas County recently tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Mosquitos from three different traps tested positive for the virus. The traps were located at the Silver City RV Park, the Town of Genoa and the Carson Valley Golf Course.

As a result, the group will be putting out three ground fogging vehicles in the valley after 9 p.m. It will conduct an aerial treatment of 1,200 acres east of Silver City RV Park on Saturday morning around 7:45 a.m.

Winhaven will be fogged Monday night and Westwood will be fogged Tuesday night.

After all the fogging is completed, the Douglas County District Mosquito Abatement will re-trap and re-test more mosquitos.

It offers the following tips to the public:

  • Use mosquito repellents.
  • Tell your family and friends about this incident and make sure they have repellent as well.
  • Put Tiki torches, bug zappers and personal foggers in your backyard or camping area.
