Procter R. Hug High School returned to normal operations Tuesday after a student became disruptive on campus, prompting school officials to temporarily restrict student movement and place the school on a secured campus.

According to a message sent to Hug High School families by Principal McElhany, the incident began when a student became disruptive in the school’s west parking lot.

School staff and Washoe County School District School Police responded and restricted movement around campus while they dealt with the situation. The student was later found safely off campus, and no one was injured, according to the district.

School police placed Hug High School on a secured campus at about 11:05 a.m. The campus returned to normal operations by 11:26 a.m.

The district said officers are continuing to investigate the incident.

School officials said they shared the information with families to address rumors and prevent unnecessary fear or anxiety in the school community.
