A five-figure national effort is sending critical gear to local firefighters in Washoe County.
Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue has been awarded a $39,120 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to purchase new structural firefighting boots.
The boots will replace aging gear that may not meet current NFPA standards and are expected to improve lifesaving capabilities when crews respond to emergencies across the unincorporated areas of Washoe County.
As first responders continue serving those areas, department leaders say having reliable equipment is essential when every second matters.
“We are grateful to the Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs in Reno for providing us with this invaluable funding,” said Richard Edwards, Fire Chief for TMFR. “The added benefit of having the very best equipment on hand means everything in an emergency when every second counts.”
The grant is part of a greater national effort. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation has awarded 7,013 grants valued at more than $102 million to public safety organizations since 2005.
The $39,120 award to Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue is one of 94 grants issued during the most recent cycle, which will provide more than $2.4 million in critical lifesaving equipment across the U.S.
For the past 20 years, charitable donations have supported the foundation’s work with first responders and public safety organizations nationwide.
