For one evening, communities across Northern Nevada and surrounding California areas will trade the usual routine for conversations, activities and a chance to meet the people who serve their neighborhoods.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign designed to strengthen relationships between neighbors, law enforcement and public safety partners. The event promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood connections while allowing communities to come together in a positive setting, according to the National Night Out website.
Held annually on the first Tuesday in August, National Night Out brings together millions of participants across thousands of communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide. Events can include block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts, safety demonstrations, youth activities, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and other community activities.
Several agencies across the region have announced events planned for Tuesday, August 4.
Truckee Police said the community is invited to join local first responders and businesses for a free family event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Truckee Regional Park.
The Fallon Police Department is hosting an event from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oats Park in Fallon. The event will include police, fire and EMS displays, K9 demonstrations, emergency vehicles, games and activities, community resource booths, food vendors, giveaways and activities for families and people of all ages.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office is holding its 43rd Annual National Night Out from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Ralph Whitworth Recreation Center. The event will provide an opportunity to meet local law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other public safety partners in a family-friendly environment.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is hosting an event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Save Mart parking lot at 1020 Al Tahoe Blvd. The event will feature interactive activities for all ages, a food truck and an opportunity to meet local law enforcement and partner agencies while learning about the services they provide.
