New students at the University of Nevada, Reno arrived on campus before their first semester begins.

These students are incoming freshman and transfers that are participating in 'NevadaFIT'.

NevadaFIT is a program meant to ease the transition from high school to college.

There was excitement in the air as students received their gear, moved into the dorms and got the transition going.

"This is a great program for students because it gets them familiar with campus early. they get to take lectures from future professors, meet other folks in their program, and just get a better sense of what college is like," says Nevada Fit director, Brianne Chambers.

Chambers says that UNR expects around 3,700 incoming students.

As the students checked in, they got their iPad and dorm key, got moved in and aquatinted.

The transitional programs stars Sunday and will go through the upcoming week.

"A lot of them are excited. We've been trying to ask them how they're feeling. Most of them are very excited. Some are a bit nervous, it's their first time away from home for many but most are very excited," adds Chambers.
