No Kings 1

Members of the community gathered in Reno Saturday for No Kings IV, a march and rally focused on voting rights ahead of the midterm elections.

The march began at 10 a.m. at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center on Riverside Drive. Led by a bagpiper, participants walked along the Truckee River to Wingfield Park.

At the park, speakers encouraged attendees to register to vote, follow election issues and participate in the general election.

The event also featured Chautauquan performers portraying four figures connected to the history of amendments related to voting rights in the United States.

“Every one of these amendments was won by ordinary Americans who refused to accept that the vote belonged only to a few,” said Farrell Vaughn, the event's safety lead. “No Kings means the people govern, and the people govern at the ballot box.”

The event also included a performance by local band Pau Hana Soul and information tables hosted by 20 local nonprofit organizations.

No Kings IV was organized by Indivisible Northern Nevada, 50501, Northern Nevada Central Labor Council, and Biggest Little Action Group-Reno.
