As the holiday season approaches, NV Energy is urging customers to stay alert amid an expected rise in scam activity.

The company says people are again encountering fraudulent tactics, including fake websites designed to mislead those searching online for NV Energy contact information.

According to NV Energy, scammers often convince people to share their personal details while pretending to help them set up a service or make a payment.

They then use that information to contact NV Energy while posing as the customer, which can give them access to sensitive account data. NV Energy called the activity “a highly sophisticated and concerning attack on both our customers and our businesses.”

The company says its employees are trained to identify suspicious activity and work to shut down known scams, but customers can reduce their risk by using official resources.

NV Energy advises customers to call the number printed on the back of their bill when making payments and to use the company’s official website, which it says is fully functional and secure.

It also notes that customer service representatives do not take payments and will not ask for banking details. People making payments will be transferred to NV Energy’s third-party vendor or to MyAccount to enter their information.

People who believe they were targeted or feel threatened during contact with a scammer are encouraged to call NV Energy at (775) 834-SCAM. They can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint or by calling (877) FTC-HELP.
