An exploding e-bike caused a garage fire at a home in the Virginia Foothills on Wednesday, rendering the home uninhabitable.

The homeowners told Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue that the bike caught fire while it was being charged, then exploded.

There were no injuries in the fire, and it was contained to the garage and home where it started, with no need to evacuate neighbors, according to a TMFR spokesperson.

Five people who lived in the home were displaced.

TMFR reminds people to charge e-bikes according to the manufacturer's instructions and, ideally, in an open space.
