Next week, you can learn more about a project to connect the Spanish Springs area to the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center.
RTC and Storey County will host a public meeting next Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Washoe County Chambers at 1001 E. Ninth Street. The meeting also will be livestreamed on RTC’s YouTube channel
Currently, I-80 is the only direct connection between the two areas and is often congested with no alternate route during traffic incidents.
The Northeast Connector Feasibility Study evaluated six potential corridor alternatives through a two-level screening process. The initial screening evaluated the corridors based on projected future traffic benefits, with the Vista Boulevard (Golden Eagle) and La Posada corridors advancing for additional evaluation. These two corridors were then evaluated in greater detail based on transportation performance, environmental considerations, engineering feasibility, right-of-way impacts and conceptual costs.
The Final Feasibility Report determined that both the Vista Boulevard (Golden Eagle) and La Posada corridors are feasible for potential future project development.
“Public input is an important part of the transportation planning process,” said RTC Executive Director Bill Thomas. “This meeting provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about the feasibility study, ask questions and provide feedback as the process continues.”
RTC says at this time, no decision has been made to advance either corridor into the environmental phase, and no funding has been specifically allocated for that purpose.
