In an online post, Pyramid Lake Fire Rescue EMS says that due to budget limitations, their station will experience interruptions in their EMS service throughout the month of January.Â
They say that they will have scheduled "brownouts," periods when no staff will be on duty at their main location.Â
The brownouts-service interruptions are scheduled to occur on Friday, January 10, and Saturday, January 11, and again on Friday, January 24, and Saturday, January 25.
You might be asking what that means. They say it means that in cases of emergency during scheduled brownout dates, please continue to call 911. Emergency responses will still be available through their Gerlach Unit, although response times may be longer than normal.Â
For situations involving immediate response, the closest available ambulance or fire truck will be dispatched along with their Gerlach unit, who is currently funded by a contract with Washoe County.Â
They say the Tribal Council has ended that contract, which will cause that resource to be unavailable in six months time. A public safety announcement will be sent prior to that period ending.Â
The Pyramid Lake Fire EMS says that they will remain committed to providing emergency services to their community and appreciate its members being understanding as they work through these operation adjustments.
Further stating that their online notification is part of their ongoing commitment to transparency, as they say was requested by their community members at the third Council meeting.
They say the community's safety still remains their top priority.Â
