Red Cross of Northern Nevada is reminding families how to prepare before an emergency during National Preparedness Month.

According to Red Cross of Northern Nevada, these four ways can help you get ready when disaster strikes.

Families should know the risks surrounding your area.

Officials say talk about where to go if separations occur during an emergency, safe places to meet, gather important contacts, medical providers and insurance information.

Families should also build a kit, three days' worth of food, water and supplies.

Red Cross of Northern Nevada would also like to remind the public that you should learn CPR and become a volunteer.
