According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 46% of all car seats are installed incorrectly. Â
REMSA Health to educate the community on the proper installation of car seats will host an event teaching people in the community how to properly install their car seats and then will double-check that yours has been properly installed.
NHTSA says that in order to protect a child, car seats must be fully and correctly installed.
Have you ever wondered how to install one or if yours is installed correctly? If so, then this event is for you.
The event will take place this Saturday, August 17, at the Reno Housing Authority located at 1525 East Ninth Street, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office says that although there is no replacement for your car seat's owners manual, or getting personalized help installing a car seat, they have provided some tips that might help you install one:Â
- Read the safety guidelines on the side of your car seat.
- Ensure the lower anchors are routed correctly through the car seat.
- Once the anchors are attached, put weight into the car seat and tighten it further.
- Ensure the belt straps are routed correctly and not twisted.
- Check the straps on your little one to make sure they are snug, but not overly tight.
