A weekend fishing trip at Sparks Marina turned into a memorable catch for a Reno man after he landed a 24-pound common carp.

According to the Nevada Department of Wildlife in an online post, the fish was caught locally and quickly drew attention online for its size and the angler’s reaction.

The fisherman, Brandon, a Reno native, said he had recently been focusing on improving his fishing skills and learning more about different species and setups.

According to the post, Brandon shared, “Born and raised in Reno, I’m 29 years old, and this was my first time reeling in a big, beautiful hog. I was shocked and excited like a little kid! I’ve been fishing since I was young, but recently I started researching different species and learning how to set up rigs, and it’s finally paying off. Now I’m catching some great fish around town and even getting my kids in on the action. It’s been an awesome experience and a lot of fun memories.”

The Nevada Department of Wildlife thanked Brandon for his great work and noted that common carp are very abundant at Sparks Marina and across Nevada.

“Great work, Brandon — thanks for sharing your story and inspiring others to get out and fish!”
