Today, April 28, the Reno Public Market hosted the Biketopia Celebration.
This event is meant to kick off national bike month which begins in May.
People at today's event were tabling and speaking to raise awareness about safety while biking in Reno, and to also advocate for safer roads.
"We need to see our network connected so that people can get from the university to downtown to midtown to the airport, important hubs in our community, and to be able to get there safely. Right now what we are hearing and we are here to listen really, and what we are hearing is that people don't feel safe," said Ky Plaskon, board member of the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance.
Multiple organizations and businesses attended the event to interact with bike riders and hand out free gear.
Some members of the bike community were interviewed on stage and spoke about the importance and benefits of biking instead of driving.
Advocates for bike month hope to continue providing resources for bicyclists and reminding drivers to be extra cautious during the spring and summer months.
