The Salvation Army of Washoe County is asking for the community's help getting its food pantry ready for the summer.
According to a release from the Salvation Army, the summer months often lead to a greater demand on food pantries, with kids out of school and not being fed through school programs.
The Salvation Army says they are especially in need of protein-packed items like ground meats, peanut butter and canned soups.
Food donations are accepted between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. weekdays at the Salvation Army Social Services Office, located at 1931 Sutro Street.
The food pantry run by the Salvation Army gives out around 1,500 food boxes a month, on average.
