A sex offender was arrested in Stagecoach recently for failing to register after living in Lyon County for around six years.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Sex Offender Task Force recently received information that 81-year-old William Morgan, a tier III sex offender, had never registered as a sex offender with any law enforcement agency in Nevada after moving to the area from California.

California authorities confirmed Morgan remains subject to lifetime sex offender registration requirements in that state.

California records showed Morgan had continued to personally complete his required annual sex offender registration in California throughout the approximately six years he had been residing in Lyon County.

As a result, Morgan remained listed as current with his California registration requirements despite maintaining his residence in Nevada and allegedly  never registering in this state.

Morgan was arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail, where he was booked on one felony count of Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. His bail was set at $5,000.
