The Sparks City Council approved a price hike for fire inspections from the Sparks Fire Department on Monday.
Starting in January, business owners will be asked to pay an hourly fee of $235 for fire inspections.
That's compared to the current flat fee of $60 to $90.
Officials with the fire department said they have a plan to make sure a similar price hike doesn't happen again.
"This time next year, we'll come back with a revised resolution to do some sort of an annual update, if you will, and from that point on it will be an increase every year, but obviously, that needs to get approved by council this time next year," said Patrick Chew, Fire Marshall with the Sparks Fire Department.
The last time the department raised the price of fire inspections was in 2017.
