Sparks Police and other local law enforcement agencies will be working together to enforce Nevada's "Move Over" law in the coming weeks.

The law requires drivers to use caution and move over by a lane if it is safe to do so when passing emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or Department of Transportation vehicles stopped on the side of the road with flashing lights on.

The goal is to create space for those vehicles, according to a release from the Sparks Police Department.

The intention is to raise awareness of the dangers first responders, tow truck drivers, and road workers face.

So far, 19 emergency responders nationwide have been struck and killed by vehicles in 2025.

"The Sparks Police Department’s goal is not only to enforce the law but also to remind drivers that slowing down and moving over saves lives," said the statement in part. "We ask the community to do their part in keeping Nevada’s roadways safe for everyone."

The enforcement campaign is funded by the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.
