Tahoe boat inspections 1

All three regional watercraft inspection stations are open at Lake Tahoe as boating season returns to the area.

The stations located at Meyers, Spooner Summit and Alpine Meadows are open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for walk-ins and appointments.

Boaters are advised to make an appointment online to save time at the station.

New this season, boaters can save 50 percent on decontamination fees by arriving clean, drain and dry.

Chris Kilian, aquatic invasive species program manager at Tahoe RCD explains why they've implemented the program, “We want to reward boaters for doing their part to prevent the spread of invasive species. Not only is this the best practice for protecting all waterways, arriving clean, drain, dry helps you get on the water faster.”

Decontaminations are mandatory for all motorized vehicles coming from other bodies of water. The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD) have inspected 123,000 vessels to date, intercepting more than 730 vessels with aquatic invasive species onboard.
