The Salvation Army of Northern Nevada will mark the start of its Red Kettle season with the annual Kettle Kickoff luncheon on Thursday, November 13.
The luncheon will take place beginning at noon at the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel and Spa in the Topaz Room, located at 1 Lake Street in Reno, and will spotlight the organization’s year-round programs..
Attendees will hear testimonies from people who have benefited from The Salvation Army’s services, including its rehabilitation program. Reno Chief of Police Kathryn Nance will deliver the keynote address.
The Reno Police Department and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office have been raising money through a friendly competition called the Kettle Run. The effort will end with officers racing around the venue to collect last-minute donations before a winning agency is announced.
The agencies have promoted the fundraiser through social media, including a lighthearted video featuring thrift shopping at Salvation Army stores set to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop.”
Anyone interested in donating to either agency can do so in the links below.

Generous early donations have helped The Salvation Army raise more than half its fundraising goal ahead of the event. Matching contributions from title sponsors Hallador and Tahoe Forest Products are expected to help reach the full target.
All money raised during the Kettle Kickoff supports Salvation Army programs throughout the year.
“This community amazes us every year,” said Major Randy Hartt, Northern Nevada coordinator for The Salvation Army. “The people here help us help their neighbors in need every year without fail. Northern Nevada is a special place, and we are looking forward to another year of helping its people thrive. When you see our red kettles out in front of stores this season, please drop whatever change you’re able to into them.”
This year’s key sponsors include returning partners like Waste Management, Kane & Partners Realty, Up and Running Business Solutions, and All Pro Security, along with first-time major donors such as Tanner Windows and Doors and Jimmy’s Express Car Wash & Quick Lube. Additional major supporters include Legacy Painting, Apex Construction, Innovative Drive, Eagle Energy, Wayne Lepire, Dave and Sue Pastrell, Donna Saarem and Tim Gant, and Brooks Mancini.
