Chain controls are likely along our mountain passes Tuesday night into Wednesday as an area of low pressure gets closer. Roads will be wet in the Truckee Meadows, but the foothills above 5,500’ will be slick early Wednesday because of light snow. This includes places like Virginia City.
The foothills around 5,000’ will see a mix of rain and snow early Wednesday, but accumulations will be tough to come by.
With the exception of the mountains, the Wednesday morning commute will be decent, but wet. The odds of having slick, snow covered roads in Reno is small. Not zero though.

Conditions will improve late Wednesday, but watch out for icy spots along our mountain passes Wednesday night. The snow itself will be done by 11pm and heavier south of I-80 in Mono County.
The worst of the snow will be gone by lunchtime Wednesday.Â
