A traffic stop in the Silver Springs area led to the arrest of a 69-year-old Silver Springs man on an alleged sex offender registration violation, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies assigned to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Central Command stopped an unregistered car at about 6:40 p.m. July 13. During the stop, deputies identified the driver as Jeffrey Martin, 69, of Silver Springs, a registered Tier III sex offender.

Deputies requested assistance from the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Task Force, which conducted a registration compliance investigation. Investigators determined Martin allegedly violated Nevada's sex offender registration requirements by failing to update his registration as required by law.

Martin was arrested without incident and booked into the Lyon County Jail on one count of alleged violation of sex offender registration requirements.

The Lyon County Sheriff's Office said its Sex Offender Task Force conducts routine compliance checks to verify registered sex offenders are meeting their legal obligations. The agency said the task force's mission is to achieve 100% compliance among registered sex offenders in Lyon County and that deputies will take enforcement action when people fail to comply with registration requirements.

The Sheriff's Office encourages people to report concerns or suspicious activity regarding sex offender compliance to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Task Force by email at SOTF@lyon-county.org.
