Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue is reminding drivers to secure trailer chains, straps, and loose metal as the summer travel season begins this weekend.
According to Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue in an online post, chains dragging on the road or metal scraping pavement can throw sparks into dry brush along roadways.
The agency said those sparks can quickly turn into dangerous roadside fires in Northern Nevada, especially during dry conditions.
The district urged people hauling trailers, scrap metal, or equipment to make sure chains, straps, and loose metal are secured before traveling.
