Nevada State Police troopers have closed a portion of U.S. Highway 95 in Nye County after a semi-truck carrying lithium batteries crashed and burst into flames.

NSP says two semi-trucks, heading opposite directions, collided near mile marker 13 around 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

One truck was hauling lumber and the other, which was carrying lithium batteries caught on fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation - and the fire has since been extinguished.

A HAZMAT crew is headed to the scene.

Both drivers suffered minor injuries.

NHP says the road closure is between State Route 160 and Mercury.

They say that all U.S. 95 traffic southbound will be diverted to Highway 160 into Pahrump, and all northbound traffic is being turned around at Indian Springs Location.

Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue and the Nevada National Security Site are also on the scene of the crash.

Fire officials say that both of the northbound and southbound lanes of U.S. 95 will be closed for an undetermined amount of time while investigators and fire crews remain on the scene to clean up and assess damages to the roadway.Â
