MARCH 19 UPDATE:

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal shooting at the Nugget Casino Resort on Sunday morning.

35-year-old Salvador Sanchez was pronounced dead shortly after being taken to Renown Regional Medical Center.

A release from the Medical Examiner’s Office lists the manner of death as homicide and the cause as multiple gunshot wounds.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE:

Early Sunday morning, Sparks Police were answering a routine call for service at the Nugget in Sparks when officers heard gunshots.

It happened just before 5:00 a.m. - officers on scene immediately went into the west end of the lobby, where they found a 35-year old man who had been shot.

The man was transported to the hospital and treated for the injuries, but he ultimately succumbed to the wounds.

According to the Sparks Police Department, this is the first homicide of 2025 for the City of Sparks.

Officials were notified that while still on the scene, another man—a 19-year old—had been transported to the hospital privately and was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.

Sparks Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

Based on their investigation, they think that a fight ensued between the two injured men and both were armed with guns.

The detectives do believe that this is an isolated incident, with no current threat to the public.

Officers were on a routine service call to the Nugget when they heard gunshots in the lobby.
