VOTERS DECIDE Nevada Governor Race.jpg

The race for Nevada Governor is set following Tuesday’s primary election, with incumbent Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo squaring off against current Nevada Attorney General, Democrat Aaron Ford.

Lombardo cleared 91% of the vote in Nevada’s Republican primary, with the second most votes going to “none of these candidates,” with a shade over two percent of the vote.

On the Democrat side, Aaron Ford won his race by a commanding margin over Alexis Hill, with nearly 64% of the vote to Hill’s nearly 23%.

Hill conceded to Ford on Tuesday night and pledged her support for his candidacy.

Governor Lombardo’s campaign released a statement following his victory on Tuesday night, pledging to fight rising costs, provide opportunities to students, and work toward growth and investment.

“Four years ago, Nevadans placed their trust in me to lead this state, and I am deeply grateful for every voter who made that possible. Together, we've delivered real results - creating nearly 100,000 new jobs, attracting over $6 billion in private investment, leading the nation in job and wage growth, improving our schools, strengthening public safety, and making housing more affordable,” said the Governor in a statement. “I am honored by the confidence Nevadans have placed in me, and I will continue working every day on behalf of every Nevadan - whether they voted for me or not. Together, we will build on our progress, finish the job, and make Nevada the best place in America to live, work, and raise a family.”

A statement released by Aaron Ford’s campaign after his win was sharply critical of Governor Lombardo, blaming the governor for rising prices, for capitulating to the president, and for taking money from pharmaceutical and energy companies.

“The contrast in this race couldn’t be clearer,” said the Ford campaign in its statement. “This November is a choice between a doormat of a governor who has spent four years telling Nevadans to accept less, and a champion who has spent his career fighting for more on behalf of Nevadans – lower costs, real accountability, and a state where working families aren’t an afterthought. Aaron Ford is the only candidate in this race who has the vision, the plans, and the tenacity to make that dream into a reality. We’re going to win this general election by building a multiracial working-class coalition united around the promise of a better future for Nevada’s working families.”

Both candidates now move forward to Nevada’s general election, set for November 3.
