County Road 34

Improvements could be coming to the route up to Black Rock Desert.

Washoe County Commissioners approved moving forward with rehabilitating a segment of Washoe County Road 34 - the main corridor used for Burning Man.

Washoe County, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration and Bureau of Land Management, received $29 million from the Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) to improve access to federal lands. The county will contribute $1.8 million to bring the total cost to just over $30 million to rehabilitate and improve approximately nine miles of Washoe County Road 34.

Improvements are set to include pavement reconstruction, shoulder safety edges, intersection upgrades, and a new turn lane to the 'eight mile' entrance.

Planning and design will take place over the next three years, with the construction contract being awarded in late 2028 and construction completion in early 2030.
