The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office has announced the return of Barks and Badges, a community event hosted by Washoe County K9 Partners, scheduled for Saturday, May 31, at Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

According to organizers, the event will feature hourly K9 demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and displays from various public safety units.

Additional scheduled activities include appearances by the Mounted Horse Unit and SWAT, as well as equipment and displays from the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team and Special Vehicles Unit.

Partner agencies, such as REMSA and Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue, will also participate.

Children’s activities, food trucks, and local vendors will be present at the event.

Attendees are advised not to bring dogs or other pets for safety reasons.

Barks and Badges benefits Washoe County K9 Partners, a nonprofit organization that supports the Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.

According to Washoe County Sheriff's Office, the Washoe County K9 Partners have funded nearly every K9 currently serving on the team, provided life-saving protective vests and helicopter-compatible deployment harnesses, and supplied in-car temperature monitoring systems to ensure K9 safety during patrols.

The event provides the public with the opportunity to meet deputies and K9s and to learn about the equipment and training used in law enforcement operations.
