An afternoon ski in the backcountry became tense as a skier got lost in the area of Tamarack Peak and needed assistance.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Hasty Team, along with Washoe County Search and Rescue, were called to Tamarack Peak Friday afternoon for a lost skier.
Due to the heavy storm conditions, the skier had become disoriented and called 911 for help.
The Washoe County Sheriff's Office Incident Management Team pinged the skier's cell phone and were able to get a GPS location, and advised him to stay in place until officials arrived.
Two Hasty Team skiers were deployed immediately in "considerable" avalanche danger to attempt to find the skier before conditions worsened, and four other Hasty Team and WCSAR staff were ready to deploy with extra equipment.
After about 45 minutes, the Hasty Team skiers were about to find the skier near the bottom of the "Hourglass" bowl.
The skier had been able to find a bit of shelter under a large tree, and was escorted out of the area unharmed.
