Proposed lighting 4th street

The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County will start construction on the West Fourth Street downtown project this week.

Starting Wednesday, people will see the construction take place. This project aims to widen sidewalks and improve lighting.

RTC says the project will also be in accordance with ADA compliance, by adding ramps at key locations, along with new traffic signals.

By connecting the bicycle and scooter paths, it will also become part of the RTC's Biggest Little Bike Network.

“We’re looking forward to this project enhancing transit connectivity and support for pedestrians and cyclists downtown,” said Scott Gibson, RTC Project Manager. “The landscaping and lighting improvements will make the area much more inviting for people visiting businesses downtown and greatly improve safety for all road users.”

RTC says this project is a $7.2 million investment in the community.
