Ahead of the holidays, food prices remain high.

The most recent Consumer Price Index report says costs are up almost 3% compared to last September. This includes the prices of popular Thanksgiving side dishes like fresh vegetables and bakery products.

One local shopper says she's seen this trend in Reno stores.

"I noticed pies are a little bit higher this year. Dairy, and eggs, of course, are still really, really high up there," said Cammien Lizotte.

Lizotte said the struggles also affect the main course.

"We've had some problems finding, like, the organic fresh turkey," she said. "We went to three different stores. [Grocery Outlet] is actually our fourth store."

Fortunately, Lizotte not only found her turkey, but at a reasonable price as well.

Younger shoppers said they haven't had to worry about rising prices.

"We're still financially supported by our parents. So, for us, we are very lucky that that hasn't affected us as much," said Izzy.

When putting together your meal, Lizette has advice for eleventh-hour shoppers.

"They'd better go out and do it before Wednesday for sure," she said. "Especially if you're looking for fresh."

And you might as well mix things up with a dish or two.

"I love trying new stuff around the holidays, so I think just experimenting is fun with some festive dishes," said Charlotte, who went Thanksgiving shopping with Izzy on Sunday.

No matter how expensive the meal gets, don't forget to spend quality time with family and friends.

"These are memories that your kids and your grandkids are going to treasure for the rest of their lives," Lizotte said.
