Wreaths Across America

A gentle tradition returns this week as people gather at the Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza to place wreaths and reflect on the service members who shaped the nation.

It is an event grounded in remembrance but carried each year by simple acts of gratitude from those who show up.

The Veterans Memorial Plaza, an official Wreaths Across America location, will host its ceremony this Saturday, December 13, at 9 a.m. at the Sparks Marina.

Volunteers will join more than 4,900 sites nationwide as part of a mission to remember, honor, and teach.

The theme for this year is tied to the last words of Captain Joshua Byers, United States Army, who was killed in Fallujah in July 2003, and whose legacy helped inspire the program’s message.

Nevada Veterans Memorial Plaza President Dave Sousa will join board members and volunteers in placing wreaths for service members and their families.

The tradition mirrors ceremonies held in all 50 states and other locations abroad, where people gather to pause, reflect, and offer simple recognition for those who served.

Community members are welcome to attend and take part in laying wreaths and sharing quiet moments at the plaza on what organizers describe as a day meant to ensure those who served are not forgotten.
