A Sparks man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to first-degree murder of a man in 2022. 

The Washoe County District Attorney's Office says Francisco Contreras shot a 42-year-old man to death in July 2022 at a Sparks bar after the victim refused to accept a drink from Contreras.

The DA's office says Contreras was also given 4-20 years to run consecutive for a Deadly Weapons Enhancement.

Authorities say he turned himself in to police five hours later, eventually pleading guilty to first-degree murder with the use of a deadly weapon. 

JULY 15, 2022:

A Sparks man faces a murder charge in connection with a deadly shooting at a bar on Prater Way.

Police say they were called to the bar just after midnight on Friday, July 15, 2022 and found a man dead inside the business.

Police say 36-year-old Francisco Contreras was arrested less than eight hours later for one count of open murder. 

Police say an argument led to the fatal shooting. 

The investigation is ongoing.
