A man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after intentionally running down five people with their car in 2020.
According to a release from the Sparks Police Department Luis Antonio Guerrero was sentenced on March 25th for the crimes of 2nd-degree murder, use of a deadly weapon enhancement, and four counts of battery with a deadly weapon.
Following the incident, one 18-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Two 17-year-old boys, a 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were all taken to Renown Medical Center in critical condition.
During the investigation, detectives determined that there had been an altercation between two groups of people at the Grand Sierra Resort, possibly including an armed robbery.

left the Grand Sierra on foot and were walking northbound on Battle Born Way.Â
Guerrero found them while driving north on Battle Born Way and ran them down with the brown Lexus car that he was driving.Â
Guerrero and his passengers continued north on Battle Born Way with one of the victims still on the top of the car for a couple of blocks.
Detectives found the car in Reno.
Guerrero and the other two occupants of the car were located and interviewed. Eventually, Luis Guerrero was identified as the driver of the vehicle and arrested.
APRIL 6, 2022 UPDATE
The Sparks Police Department says they have arrested a new suspect after a fatal crash on Battle Born Way last month. Police also say all charges were dropped against the original suspect in the case.
Police say after the the arrest of Juan Pablo Guerrero on July 23rd, Detectives continued to investigate the homicide, working closely with the District Attorney’s Office.
Then then say on August 7th, additional evidence was discovered and the DA’s Office dismissed the charges against Juan Pablo Guerrero at the Sparks Police Department's request.
On August 10, 2020, Luis Guerrero was arrested and booked for open murder, three charges of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm and five charges of duty to stop at scene of accident causing death or injury.
The Washoe County Medical Examiner's Office says the 18-year-old woman who died in the crash was identified as Kayla Romero of Reno. Officials said the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries from the car hitting her. They said the manner of death was homicide.Â

The Sparks Police Department have arrested a man accused of intentionally hitting five people with his car near Kietzke Lane and Battle Born Way on Wednesday night.Â
Authorities booked 25-year-old Juan Pablo Guerrero into the Washoe County Jail on multiple charges, including open murder, and four charges of battery with a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm.Â
When police arrived on scene, they say they found three teenage victims and one 22-year-old victim on the ground, just after 6 p.m.Â
Police say an 18-year-old woman died on scene.
Officers say the four other victims were transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with severe injuries.Â
Officers say the incident started as a fight between the group of victims and another group at the Grand Sierra Resort. At some point, the five victims walked away from the GSR along Battle Born Way, when Guerrero allegedly ran them down with a brown Lexus.Â
Officers say Guerrero drove a few blocks with one victim still on the hood of his car.Â
