U.S. President Donald Trump says the United States is “reinstating” a blockade on Iran in the Strait of Hormuz and will charge other ships for safe passage. He made the announcement in a post on social media Monday, after another exchange of fire between the United States and Iran over the critical waterway. A fifth of the world's oil and gas passed through the strait before Iran asserted control over it after the start of the war. Trump said the toll would help cover costs necessary to provide safety and security. The conflict with Iran has intensified, raising fears of a return to all-out war and further disruption to the global economy.
President Donald Trump said Iranian ships will no longer be able to travel through the Strait of Hormuz and America would charge a 20% toll on other countries’ eligible cargo, escalating tensions after weekend of attacks by both nations to assert control of the critical waterway. The European Union's top diplomat says the strait should return to how it was before the war — open and free. Trump also said Lindsey Graham’s sister should be named his temporary Senate replacement. Graham was one of Trump's closest allies in Congress, advocating for Ukraine and for military aggression against Iran. Republicans with just 51 members available to vote for Trump's agenda.
