Reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico have been denied access to the White House. Reporters from the two cable networks both went live to report they’d been barred following a ban imposed by President Donald Trump. The actions escalated Trump’s long-running efforts to restrict news coverage by journalists he finds objectionable. It's the latest test of First Amendment protections in the United States. Trump said Friday he would ban both organizations and also Politico, because of their coverage — which he called “fake news.” Politico said its White House reporter Cheyenne Haslett was also denied entry to the White House and had her badge confiscated.
CNN, MS NOW and Politico say they’ve notified President Donald Trump's administration they’re filing a lawsuit over being denied White House access. They issued a joint statement Monday. Reporters from the three news organizations were blocked from the White House on Saturday, a day after Trump said he was barring them because of reporting he deemed “fake news.” On Monday morning, CNN was removed from its pool duties, which are shared by the major networks. The actions were an escalation of Trump’s long-running efforts in the courts and through administrative action to restrict news coverage by journalists he finds objectionable. The Republican president had said Friday he would ban all three outlets because of coverage he disliked.
