British police say they are investigating whether a series of arson attacks on Jewish sites in London are the work of Iranian proxies. The Metropolitan Police force says counterterror officers are probing the attacks on synagogues and other sites linked to the Jewish community, as well as an attack on a Persian-language media company. No one has been injured in the blazes, the latest of which caused minor damage to a north London synagogue on Saturday night. The chief rabbi said British Jews are facing a campaign of violence and intimidation and Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he was appalled by the attacks.
British police have arrested two teenagers in connection with a weekend arson attack on a synagogue in northwest London as Jewish leaders express concern about a wave of recent incidents targeting their community. Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes of London’s Metropolitan Police Service said Monday that officers arrested two young men, aged 19 and 17, overnight in relation to the attack on the Kenton United Synagogue in the borough of Harrow. Jukes told the BBC the department has made a total of 15 arrests related to six attacks on Jewish targets and a Persian-language media company over the past few weeks.
