China plans to restrict or ban exports of 40 technologies, including AI, chips, and solar power, as its tech race with countries like the U.S. intensifies. The Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Science and Technology published a draft document with proposed updates. A spokesperson from the commerce ministry said the move is “necessary” for national security. The proposal includes 23 AI technologies and comes as China and the U.S. make progress in dialogues over AI safety. U.S.-led restrictions have curbed exports of advanced technologies to China. The move aims to regulate access to Chinese technologies.
