New York City’s public school system will ban artificial intelligence for students through the 8th grade during the upcoming school year. Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced the move Wednesday as part of a wider assessment of how children in the nation’s largest school district interact with the technology. City Hall is describing the policy as the most expansive prohibition in the country. The approach comes as students, parents and schools across the country are attempting to navigate the use of AI tools. High schoolers in the city will get access to twice-yearly AI literacy classes in an effort to teach them how to use the technology.

President Donald Trump plans to meet with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani when Trump travels to the city for the upcoming U.N. General Assembly. The meeting is set for Monday at Gracie Mansion, the mayor's official residence. Mamdani's communications director says they'll discuss issues affecting the city. The White House has also confirmed the meeting. Mamdani is a democratic socialist and has often been a political foil for Republicans. But Trump has shown warmth toward Mamdani, even after calling Mamdani a "100% Communist Lunatic" during the mayor's campaign. Their previous meetings have been cordial.
