Virginia Democrats picked establishment candidates to take on Republican incumbents in two congressional districts the party hopes to flip in November. It's part of a broader fight for control of the U.S. House after Democrats’ failed redistricting initiative. The commonwealth typically holds its primaries in June but this year moved them to August to accommodate a push approved by voters to redraw congressional districts. The effort was later overturned by the state Supreme Court. Shannon Taylor, a prosecutor, and former congresswoman Elaine Luria are the party's nominees in the 1st and 2nd Congressional District, races that will be among the most closely watched in the nation.
