The renewed war between Israel and the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group and the mass displacement  because of the conflict are draining the joy from Ramadan and the run-up to the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Fitr for many in Lebanon. Beirut says Israeli strikes have displaced more than 1 million people in the country. People are reduced to sleeping in tents on the streets or in their cars. Some have secured coveted spots in schools and other places turned into shelters. Many describe myriad hardships away from their homes and can't feel what would normally have been a joyous time. Eid al-Fitr is typically marked with congregational prayers, family visits, outings and new clothes.
