UPDATE - July 25, 2025:Â
New directional markings now guide traffic more clearly through the Reno spaghetti bowl following recent overnight work by NDOT highway maintenance crews.
This week, Nevada Department of Transportation crews worked during overnight hours to replace worn directional interstate shields on sections of northbound I-580 and westbound I-80.
The updates are part of ongoing efforts to improve driver guidance through the heavily traveled interchange.
The work included installation of eight I-80 logos with east and west directional indicators on northbound I-580, along with eight updated interstate and highway shields, covering I-580, I-80, and U.S. 395, and 15 merge arrows on westbound I-80.
Crews used thermoplastic markings, a reflective and highly durable material that offers better wear resistance than standard road paint.
The process was handled by NDOT highway maintenance professionals, who routinely perform over 75 types of tasks statewide, including crack sealing, paving, incident response, and snow removal.
Multiple NDOT crews from across the region collaborated to complete the work efficiently and limit the duration of lane reductions.
A time-lapse video showing the installation of the new markings at the spaghetti bowl is available below.
